Moroccan authorities detained human rights activist al-Muti Monjib

On December 29th, 2020; the Moroccan authorities arrested the human rights activist, Al-Muti Monjib, from a restaurant in Rabat; on charges connected to money laundering.
In fact, The Crown prosecutor, at the initiative court in Rabat, stated on October 7th, 2020 that; “In compliance with Article 18 of Law No. 43.05, the Public Prosecution had received a referral from the Financial Information Processing Unit, which includes an archive of significant financial transactions and a list of a number of the real estate assists, which were the target of permits accused of not being commensurate with the daily profit claimed by al-Muti Monjib and his family members”.
Despite this, observers see that Monjib’s detention comes as a settlement for being an activist in popular demonstrations; especially that he had stated, when the authorities opened the case; that “These accusations are a punishment for a media statement I made about the internal intelligence suppression of oppositions”.
