Belarusian authorities continue to insist on what they said about diverting a plane route to arrest the opposition journalist Roman Protasevich. They still affirm that they received a false threat about the presence of a bomb on the plane; noting that the threat had the Palestinian Hamas movement signature.
This came during a press conference today, in which the authorities presented the detained journalist, Protasevich. The opposition indicated that what took place at the conference regarding the journalist’s presentation was done under duress; describing it as a scene from the work of the writer Kafka; “This is not a press conference, but a scene from Kafka or Orwell”, an advisor to Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Flank Viacorka, posted on “Twitter”.
In fact, Belarus authorities arrested the former editor of the opposition journalist group Nexta, Roman Protasevich, on May 23rd; after they diverted the Ryanair plane, that was heading to Lithuania.
At that time, the European Union leaders decided to impose additional sanctions on Belarusian personalities and entities; to avoid flying over those countries and to prevent Blarusian planes from using European airspace and airports.
